OSHA announced a delay in enforcement of the new crystalline silica standard that applies to the construction industry so that additional outreach and educational materials can be provided.  Originally the standard was scheduled to begin June 23, 2017, but enforcement will now begin September 23, 2017.

Employers are expected to continue to take steps to come into compliance with the new permissible exposure limit or implement specific dust controls for certain operations.  Construction employers need to continue to prepare implementation of the OSHA standard to include exposure assessment, medical surveillance and employee training.  Employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees.
